Is Social Media an Angel or a Devil?

The other day, a friend called me in a slightly reproachful tone and said, “Brother, you don’t like the things I post on Instagram.”

“While he was right to feel that way, I told him that I simply don’t have much time to spend on social media.”

Grown adults are almost assuming the identity of small children, worrying about who liked what and how much; showing themselves off while going to clubs or discos, displaying the splendor of their tables while eating, even sharing what they wear and what they drink—becoming consumed by these new habits.

Is social media an angel or a devil?

On January 5, 2026, we will be hosting two wonderful professors—true experts on these very topics—at University of Mediterranean Karpasia. Prof. Dr. Ece Baban, Dean of the Faculty of Communication at Beykent University, and Prof. Dr. Ebru Güzel, a faculty member from the same university, will explain to us the point social media has reached in our lives.

Even people who share the same home choose to spend time on their mobile phones instead of talking to one another. This is where we have arrived. The most important question awaiting an answer is: is social media an angel or a devil?

For some of us, it is an angel; for others, a devil.
