There are three main sectors in our country. These are tourism, education, and construction.
We have agriculture and industry on a small scale that can meet domestic demand; however, it is very difficult to define them at an international level. In recent years, instead of making the expected breakthroughs, these main sectors have been steadily losing momentum.
The decline of these main sectors has causes and consequences stemming from their own internal dynamics, as well as national and international factors. I will not dwell on these, because everyone already knows them. Those who do not know—or who knowingly lie in wait—manage these sectors on behalf of the state mechanism and create misleading perceptions for our people.
Tourism is said to be soaring, booming, exploding; student numbers in the education sector are increasing, and apartments and villas are being sold like hotcakes. What truly matters is the mathematics of the business and the statistics that are kept.
Giant Turkey published its tourism statistics at the end of January (as of yesterday), while we are still waiting. Anyway, let’s wait and see when they will be announced. My prediction is that we will once again fall behind the figures and statistics of 2019 (number of tourists, revenue per tourist, annual occupancy rates, number of overnight stays, etc.).
